The Georgia state university system presented a webinar on Sept. 19 with overviews of some of their schools. Here are a few takeaways on Georgia Tech:

Georgia Tech

Pay attention to their motto, “Progress and Service.” It isn’t about progress for the sake of progress or service in isolation. It’s about creating progress in order to serve others. Georgia Tech wants students who are eager to solve challenges and bring others along with them.

Georgia Tech, with an undergraduate population of just under 19,000, has a 98% retention rate, meaning not only that freshmen are happy, but that they remain eligible to stay at the university. GT produces bachelor of science degrees and requires calculus for every major.

Every discipline incorporates practical applications. Georgia Tech is not a good fit for students who want to learn just for learning’s sake. It’s a great fit for those who want to apply learning in a practical, direct way.

Georgia Tech accepted 17% of applicants for 2024. It reviews applications holistically, looking at academic preparation, contribution to community, personal essays, major selection, letters of recommendation, SAT scores, and institutional fit. If you want to be considered for merit aid, apply early action, by Oct. 15.
