Lynn U. weaves AI into curriculum
Fast facts for
Lynn University
Of the 3500 students at Lynn, the majority come to Boca Raton from outside the state of Florida, and 16% are international students. Lynn awards merit aid from $10K to $22K per year based on your weighted GPA (and test scores, if submitted) and has an acceptance rate of 80%. Though this school in Florida is private, Floridians can still use Florida Prepaid or Bright Futures money, recouping about 70 to 80% of those programs’ worth.
Weaving AI through the curriculum
Specific ways that Lynn is incorporating AI:
Students can use AI to create customized study plans; to collaborate and facilitate group work; to schedule meetings; and to get individualized AI tutoring.
Professors can use AI to automate routine grading and give quicker feedback. AI can help identify common errors and give insight about class performance so professors can adjust lessons accordingly. Chatbots can answer common student inquiries so that professors can spend time dealing with more complex student needs.
Lynn is for flying
Lynn has a flight school and its own airport for students getting their professional pilot Bachelor of Science. Two other degree programs are related to flight but do not include actually flying: aviation operations and aviation management, both B.S. degrees. Many aspiring pilots took advantage of the new Early Decision plan this year; in fact, there’s already a waitlist for the professional pilot program.
Apple distinguished school for innovation
Ten years ago, Apple recognized Lynn as a “distinguished school for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence.” In addition to the Apple iPad every student receives when they enroll, Lynn has woven AI into all the curriculum. Each professor and student creates their own chatbot that acts like an administrative assistant. You can get Lynn student news from iPulse on Apple iTunes.
Innovation shows in the forward-thinking school of Communication and Design. Communication rarely happens in a vacuum. Media and message are intertwined. In this school you’ll find advertising and PR, communication, and multimedia journalism, but also B.F.A. programs in computer animation, film production, and graphic design.
The Conservatory of Music offers the Bachelor of Music degree for both composition and performance, and the auditorium was good enough to host the 2012 presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Wealth management, Lynn’s newest B.S. degree, gives a broad overview, combining finance, economics, and accounting. And you can get an M.B.A. in your fourth year if you plan it right.
Block scheduling
After instituting block scheduling during covid, where students take one class for four weeks rather than four or five classes at once, students liked the format so much that Lynn kept it. It means focusing intensely on one subject at a time, getting to know your classmates and professor.
Freshman programs
Lynn has two great programs for freshmen. One is the First 40, a mandatory program of an event every day for 40 days, beginning with move-in. The other is the Citizenship Project, where groups of 3-4 freshmen come up with a solution for the city of Boca Raton, showcasing their solutions in spring.
Lynn is currently building a new dorm for first-year students. It will be opening in the fall of 2025.
